UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Tammy M. Laraway of Westfield walked away with $526,914 after hitting it big on a penny slot machine at Mohegan Sun Casino on Saturday night.
Laraway said she had been playing the same $20 over a two-hour span before she hit a $344 win, followed moments later by a $526,914 jackpot.
'I was happy to win the $344. I just go down there once a month, if that,' said Laraway, who operates several Subway franchises in Western Massachusetts with her husband of 25 years, Cliff. 'I hate to say that to the die-hard people who always play.'

She said her husband persuaded her to keep playing the Wheel of Fortune slot when she thought of walking away. When she won the half a million dollar jackpot, she thought it was a practical joke he had somehow orchestrated.
